Calvin Bassey’s Ajax Debut To Forget After A Straight Red Card

0

Calvin Bassey has endured a nightmare on his debut for Ajax as he was shown a straight red card after less than 20 minutes on the pitch, reports, Megasportsarena.com.

The former Rangers defender joined the Dutch giants earlier this summer in exchange for a club record fee after two years with the Ibrox club.

Since joining Ajax, Bassey has already had to wait to join up with the rest of the team while he waited on his work permit being sorted out.

But things finally started looking up for him when it came in in time in order for him to be part of the squad for the club’s Johan Cruyff Shield clash with PSV Eindhoven in the first competitive game of the Dutch season.

However, after being introduced for his debut midway through the second half this evening, Bassey couldn’t help Ajax’s defence as they conceded two goals which gave PSV a 4-2 lead.

And it only got worse from there as he caught Ismael Saibari with a late studs-up challenge on the side of his leg.

After a VAR check, the referee wasted no time in showing a straight red card to Bassey.

Ajax’s bad night was compounded by PSV scoring a fifth goal through Xavi Simons in stoppage time.
