Milwaukee Bucks of America sensation, Giannis Adetokunbo (Antetokounmpo) put up a brilliant performance on his first night back in action, after suffering a freak injury last week during action in USA’s National Basketball Association (NBA) league.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, after missing Saturday’s fixture, which his side still won in his absence, Antetokounmpo (aka The Greek Freak) returned from a spell on the sidelines to help The Bucks to a 117-114 victory over Brooklyn Nets.
Antetokounmpo, who is the NBA’s reigning and back-to-back most valuable player, scored 49 points, including a dunk with 7:57 left to break a 96-96 tie, as The Bucks took their second win in a row to close the gap to The Nets in the Eastern Conference.
Khris Middleton had 26 points and 11 rebounds for The Bucks, while Kevin Durant, who notched 32 points, missed a three-pointer at the buzzer which could have sent the game into overtime.
Same night in the NBA, Eastern Conference leaders, Philadelphia 76ers needed overtime to see off San Antonio Spurs 113-111, with Ben Simmons’ tip-in proving to make a world of difference.
San Antonio staged a late comeback by outscoring their opponents 28-18 in the fourth quarter, to force the extra five minutes, and Simmons tipped in from Joel Embiid for the victory, Philly’s fourth on the bounce.
Elsewhere, Julius Randle scored 31 as the New York Knicks breezed past Houston Rockets 122-97, Portland Trail Blazers saw off Boston Celtics 129-119 and Miami Heat boosted their play-off chances with a 121-111 win over Charlotte Hornets.
Oklahoma City Thunder, off the back of a near NBA record 152-95 defeat to Indiana Pacers, went down to Phoenix Suns 123-120, with Devin Booker top scoring with 32, while Sacramento Kings saw off Dallas Mavericks 111-99 and Los Angeles Lakers were downed by Toronto Raptors 121-114.
