FC Midtjylland of Denmark midfielder, Frank Onyeka may end up signing an extended contract with the club at the start of next year, as the Super Eagles’ rookie has already opened talks with the club’s top brass over the possibility of him getting an improved deal with the team.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, with Onyeka having grown in status as a full-fledged international, following his recent outings with the Eagles, top shots at his Henning-based side are thinking of baiting him with better trappings in their ranks, in order to ward off emergent interest from other clubs.
With varying developments and speculations in mind, Midtjylland’s chairman, Rasmus Ankersen has disclosed that the Danish League champions are already in talks with Onyeka, as they intend to cement his immediate his future at the club.
The FC Ebedei of Shagamu product, who was on the radar of several other European clubs in the summer transfer window, but he could not get a deal because The Wolves decided to keep him in order to retain depth in their squad for this season’s UEFA Champions League.
At it were, Onyeka is still under contract with Midtjylland until 2024 and, despite the club being unable to reach the UCL’s round of 16, Ankersen is of a view that better days dill lie ahead of the vastly-improved Onyeka and his equally enterprising teammate, Alexander Scholz.
Onyeka and Scholz have been the SuperLiga club’s standout players so far this year, with the Nigerian lad showing off his tackling abilities and commanding role in midfield, much to the delight of Ankersen, who confessed that he would like to see the duo stay much longer at FCM.
Ankersen told BT: “As a club, we also have a very strong connection to both of the two players, and they have given us a lot. Personally, I also hope to see them be part of FC Midtjylland in the future.
“Time will tell whether they must first have a trip abroad and then maybe come back again, or whether it will be with a contract extension. It is something we have a close dialogue with both players around.”
