Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles are putting finishing touches to their preparations for the upcoming West African Football Union (WAFU) B zonal qualifiers for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, with a fixture against Cote d’Ivoire set to open their campaign on December 6 in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Megasportsarena.com reportshe focus is now on Cotonou, after Togo pulled out of hosting the regional competition on account of fears over coronavirus, but Coach Isah Ladan Bosso insists his team will not be distracted by the change in date and venue.
Rather than feel shortchanged by the sudden alterations, Bosso has stepped up efforts in putting his side in shape and the Flying Eagles hope to get victory against the Ivoriens at Stade de Gaulles in Cotonou on December 6.
It means longer time for Bosso to knock his wards into contention, as the U20 AFCON WAFU B zonal qualifiers were originally billed to begin on November 18 in Lome, Togo, but the Francophone West African nation pulled out citing Coronavirus concerns.
After their first game on December 6, the Flying Eagles’ second Group B match will be against Ghana on December 9, while the new hosts, Benin Republic will tango Togo, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso in Group A.
Bosso will now aim for victory all the way in order to return home with his head held high after the U20 AFCON qualifiers end on December 19, after which he and his players would later return to the same country few months on, as Benin Republic will also host the main AFCON U20 championship next year.
