New loan arrival at AC Milan of Italy, Fikayo Tomori would coat the Italian Serie A side a princely sum of €30m should they decide to buy him outright from his parent club, Chelsea of England, where the Nigerian-born lad has fallen out of the first team picture, megasportsarena.com gathered.
The 23-year-old Tomori will now aim for regular playing time, after sealing a loan move to The San Siro, where he is expected to ply his trade until the end of this season, on the strength on a deal that includes an option for Milan to buy him outright for £26.6m (€30m).
Tomori, who will don jersey number 23 at Milan, was born in Canada to Nigerian parents, but he later became a British citizen through naturalization, before which he had already played three games for the under-20 team of the country of his birth before deciding to represent England.
Subsequently, he was part of England’s youth team that won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017 and made his debut for the senior squad in November 2019, following which he became cap-tied and is no longer eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
A report about the dark-skinned lad’s latest loan deal added: “Milan, who are top of Italy’s Serie A, are in the midst of a defensive crisis and need Tomori to bolster their options at the back before their game against Atalanta at San Siro this weekend.
“Chelsea’s coach, Frank Lampard is a big admirer of Tomori, who he took on loan in his previous job at Derby, and sees the 23-year-old England international in his long-term plans at Stamford Bridge.
“Tomori impressed on loan at Derby County, under The Rams’ then boss, Frank Lampard in the 2018-19 campaign. Lampard then ushered the talented defender into the Chelsea first team after taking the helm for last season.
“The product of the Chelsea academy played a bigger role in Lampard’s first season in charge, making 22 appearances, but he has struggled for minutes this season, featuring just four times since the arrival of Thiago Silva as a free agent.
“Silva’s summer arrival at Chelsea pushed Tomori further down the Stamford Bridge pecking order, with Kurt Zouma, Toni Rudiger and Andreas Christensen all also ahead of him. The Canada-born defender opted to stay and fight for a first-team place before the start of the campaign, but has now grasped the chance of a big loan move to Italy.
“Title-chasing Milan will offer Tomori a big chance to assert his top-level credentials. Despite his temporary departure from west London, boss Frank Lampard has insisted that Tomori still has a long-term future with The Blues.”
Chelsea also confirmed in a statement: “Fikayo Tomori will spend the rest of this season on loan with Serie A leaders AC Milan. The academy graduate will continue his development at San Siro having been with Chelsea since under-eights level.
“He has made 27 appearances for the Blues so far, including four this season, most recently as a substitute in the FA Cup third round win over Morecambe earlier this month.”
