Chelsea of England defender, Fikayo Tomori is set to join AC Milan of Italy in a six month loan transfer worth £27m, ahead of which the Nigerian-born stopper will fly to The Land of The Azzurri this week to seal the move, megasportsarena.com reports.
The 23-year-old is eager to take his trade elsewhere in search of regular laying time, having made just four appearances for The Blues in all competitions this season, and Italian sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano says Tomori’s loan move to Milan will be completed next week.
However, even as the dark-skinned defender, who was born in Canada to Nigerian parents is set to travel to Italy, it has already been reported that he will join Milan on a six-month deal that includes an option to buy for £27m.
It means he has snubbed the chance of continuing his career development in the EPL, as the duo of Newcastle United and Leeds United had shown interest in him but the Nigerian-born England international wanted to try his mettle outside the British Isle.
A report by Sky Sports added: ‘AC Milan have practically completed the signing of Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea. The 23-year-old centre back will join the Rossoneri on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.
“Purchasing English players is always expensive and in order to sign Tomori permanently AC Milan must pay Chelsea a hefty fee of 30 million euros. After deciding to pull the plug on the Simakan deal, due to his injury, the Rossoneri are now fully concentrated on the 23-year-old English defender.
“Tomori is considered an ideal profile given his physical and technical skills. Chelsea coach Frank Lampard was against offering Milan an option because he believes in Fikayo but the Blues have valued the 30 million figure a good one.
“The Rossoneri management still hope they can lower that fee a bit. The two clubs are now discussing the remaining details of the agreement. The player too has prioritized a move to Serie A and has rejected offers from other English clubs.
“The 23-year-old centre back made 22 appearances with Chelsea last season but has seen his space restricted a lot this year since the arrival of Thiago Silva. He has made only 4 appearances so far.”
