Enyimba of Aba revived their hope of making progress into the knock-out stage of this season’s CAF Confederations Cup with a stunning 4-1 win over visiting SC Paradou of Algeria on Sunday in The City of Elephants, megasportsarena.com reports.
After their setback in Blida, the People’s Elephant boosted their qualification hopes with victory over the Algerians in Aba, as Stanley Dimgba scored a perfect hat-trick and Victor Mbaoma also found the net as Enyimba took a huge step towards reaching the quarter-finals.
The Peoples’ Elephants’ hopes of qualifying from Group D had suffered a slight setback after losing 1-0 in the first leg, but the two-time African champions pulled the chestnut from the fire with a commendable display inside Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
Dimgba put the hosts ahead after 15 minutes after heading home Reuben Bala’s corner kick. Dimgba turned provider for Mbaoma in the 35th minute before completing his brace a minute later to go into the half-time break with a 3-0 lead.
Fatai Osho’s men continued with their imposing attacking display in the second half and would have made it 4-0 but Mbaoma’s effort hit the woodwork.
Man-of-the-match Dimgba completed his treble after 77 minutes to thwart any ambition from the Algerians to launch a comeback, as Paradou pulled one goal back through Abdelhak Kadri in the 89th minute as they returned home empty-handed.
Enyimba move to second with six points from four matches. They host leaders Hassania Agadir in their next game on January 26.
