Enyimba of Aba got a 1-0 win away to Rahimo FC of Burkina Faso in the CAF Champions League and gave Nigeria something to cheer in continental club matches at the weekend, following defeats for Rivers United of Port Harcourt, Kano Pillars and Plateau United of Jos.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Kano Pillars fell 3-1 to ASC Jaraaf of Senegal and Rivers United lost 2-1 to Futuro Kings in the CAF Confederations Cup, while Plateau United lost 1-0 in Jos to Simba SC of Tanzania in the Champions League.
Plateau United face a tough task of advancing to the first round after they lost 1-0 at home to Simba, whose match winner came from Clatous Sama in the 54th minute, after which the hosts failed to put away many chances in a game they were expected to win and make the return leg in Tanzania a mere formality.
Tanzania international goalkeeper Aishi Manula also pulled off a number of big saves to deny The Tin City side, but it was a different story for Enyimba, as Victor Mbaoma scored the only goal of the match after 76 minutes.
Several key players were not available for the two-time African champions, but they still managed to get the only victory by a Nigerian club in continental action this past weekend, while three others all lost their opening games of the two competitions.
