Trabzonspor of Turkey’s Nigerian-born coach, Eddie Nkem Newton is facing a decisive outing this weekend against Fernabahce, feelers indicate that the Turkish Super Lig encounter could determine his future with the squad, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although officials at the Trabzon-based side that recently had the duo of John Mikel Obi and Eddie Ogenyi Onazi on their cards, with Anthony Nwakaeme still part of their current squad, are standing by the gaffer, he jolly well might be sacked if the result does not go in their favour.
A report out of Turkey adds that Newton has already met with top shots at the club, but no affirmative declaration was forthcoming, which has left room open for further speculation about his future beyond this weekend’s game.
Turkish sports daily, Fanatik added: “Trabzonspor are standing by underfire coach Eddie Newton ahead of their clash with Fenerbahce. Trabzonspor has lost twice in their opening five games, with Newton being criticised for his team selection and tactics.
“The result against Fenerbahce could determine Newton’s position. The former Chelsea coach has been asked to meet with the board to discuss the team’s poor start to the season. However, the board is standing by the head coach given his squad has been hit hard by injuries to several frontliners.”
