Bayern Munich of Germany defender, David Olatokunbo Alaba could eventually be on his way to Manchester City of England in the coming month, following reports that he fancies an opportunity of getting a reunion with his former coach, Pep Guardiola, megasportsarena.com reports.
Alaba excelled playing under Guardiola during their time together at Allianz Arena and, with the Spanish icon still waxing strong with Man City, latest reports indicate that the Nigerian-born left-back is wont to link forces with the gaffer once again at Etihad Stadium,
This has put The Citizens top of the log in the class of clubs linked with Alaba, who comes off contract at Munich in June and has already hinted that he is ready to leave after The Bavarians’ board withdrew their final offer to give him an improved contract.
Consequently, the Austria international has stepped up his efforts to get a new club in the January transfer window and, though earlier reports had put Chelsea and Liverpool of England as well as Real Madrid of Spain top of his suitors roll call, Alaba is now turning his gaze on Man City.
A report by Fussball Transfers added that The Citizens are also keen on a deal for Alaba, as it would mean seeing the defender with a Nigerian father and Philippines mother reunited with Guardiola, who was some years back the 27-year-old star’s coach at Bayern.
The report noted further that a key factor in negotiations that could see Alaba accept a move to The Etihad would be Guardiola’s willingness to play him in midfield, where the highly-rated lad excels with the Austrian national team, but has been restricted to central defence and a bit-part role so far this season at Bayern.
