Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze again played as a substitute behind new arrival, Paco Alcacer in their team’s latest match in La Liga, but it was the Super Eagles’ youngster that had a better show on the evening than his team’s biggest transfer signing ever.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, while Alcacer has been preferred to Chukwueze in The Yellow Submarine’s starting 11 since the start of this season, the Nigerian lad continues giving his best whenever he is called upon, which was again the case on Saturday.
He got off the bench to add a lot of pep down Villarreal’s left wing, much to the admiration of former Barcelona midfielder, Andrea Orlandi, who noted that Chukwueze was a huge threat to Levante in The Yellow Submarine’s 2-1 win at Estadio de la Cerámica.
Chukwueze replaced Villarreal’s most expensive signing in history with 16 minutes remaining on the clock, but the Eagles’ rookie still had enough time to enact his best moment in the battle, when he attempted to lob Levante’s goalkeeper Aitor Fernandez who was off his line.
However, while Chukwueze missed that chance by the whiskers, Gerard Moreno earlier opened scoring for Villarreal after just nine minutes, after which Borja Mayoral restored parity in the 56th, before Moi Gomez netted the winning goal over the hour mark.
Incidentally, despite now playing from the bench this season, Chukwueze has been involved in all matches played by Villarreal so far in the Spanish top-flight, apart from the visit to Leganes in week four, and Orlandi noted on Saturday that the Nigerian kid had more impact than Alcacer, who is still adapting after his arrival from Borussia Dortmund of Germany in January.
Orlandi said: “Paco Alcacer didn’t have his best game. He’s still finding his feet at Villarreal. When Samuel Chukwueze came on he created problems on that right hand side, replacing Paco Alcacer. Getting back to Europe is the least you can ask for for a team of that quality.”
