Northampton Town of England striker, Caleb Chukwuemeka has been touted to step into the vacuum created by the exit of Dennis Emmanuel Bonaventure at Club Brugge of Belgium, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Bonaventure is fast settling down at Watford of England in the array of six other Nigerian players at Vicarage Road, Chukwuemeka is heading to the team that still has David Chidozie Okereke in their ranks.
Club Brugge have a long history of relations with Nigerian players, dating back to the days of Daniel ‘The Bull’ Amokachi, and they now appear set to include Chukwuemeka in their illustrious roll call of stars from the West African country.
Feelers in this direction are provided by reports indicating that Brugge are in pole position to sign the 19-year-old Chukwuemeka, who was previously linked with Glasgow Rangers of Scotland as well as Norwich City and Aston Villa of England.
A report by Football League World added that The Cobblers are set to lose Chukwuemeka to Brugge, in spite of an earlier hint that he could be on his way to joining his younger brother, Carney Chukwuemeka at Villa Park.
Carney is currently one of the standout players in Villa’s academy and has even made two appearances for the first team in the English Premier League last term, during which he also helped their under-18 squad win the FA Youth Cup.
Incidentally, the older Chukwuemeka, who is predominantly a center forward but also good as a winger, got 28 appearances in all competitions for Northampton last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist, but he is bound to move on after the club got demoted to the fourth-tier after finishing 22nd in England’s League One.
