More details have emerged in reasons behind the exclusion of Club Brugge of Belgium striker, Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure from his club’s UEFA Champions League fixture away to Borussia Dortmund of Germany, megasportsarena.com reports.
In contrast with initial reports that the former Olympic Eagles’ attacker had been left out of the travelling squad on account of fitness issues, Club Brugge’s coach, Philippe Clement has hinted that the talented yet underachieving lad will miss Wednesday’s game due to disciplinary reasons.
Although Clement did not expatiate, he admitted that there was an infringement on some club rules by Bonaventure, who also did not play his team’s domestic league game against KV Kortrijk on Saturday.
The attacker-cum-winger, who played the closing minutes of the Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Sierra Leone last week, was expected to be fresh for the battle away to Dortmund but the youngster, who set tongues wagging last season when he scored twice against Real Madrid appears to be heading for the drain at Brugge.
The former Zorya of Ukraine attacker was originally included in Brugge’s 22-player squad that was expected in Dortmund on Monday and he had even been spotted boarding the team bus, only for him to storm off in anger soon after.
Bonaventure, who also scored against Zenit St. Petersburg this season, had been angling for a big-money transfer during the summer, but his aspirations did not materialize, such that speculation is now shooting up that the youngster, whose valuation of around 25 million euro, is already seeking new suitors.
However, additional information out of Belgium on Tuesday revealed that Bonaventure will not feature this week in the UCL because his club management decided to hammer him after he angrily got off the team bus because he was not allowed to sit where he wanted.
It appears Bonaventure was not satisfied with the strict was not impressed strict anti-COVID-19 measures put in place by club officials on the bus, yet Clement refused to elaborate even when he admitted that the player had been dropped for disciplinary reasons.
Het Laatste Nieuws reported that Bonaventure will be fined by the club, but Clement said curtly: “Dennis has broken some rules of the club. That is the only reason. I will not elaborate on his situation further.
“He is fit, but he is not in the selection against Dortmund. I only focus on the players who are there, just like with injuries and COVID cases. That’s why I’m not saying anything about Dennis.”
