CD Leganes of Spain defender, Chidozie Awaziem has declared that he and his colleagues will be all out to consolidate on their return to winning ways in La Liga by trying the best they can to beat Deportivo Alavés this Friday in their next Spanish top-flight league fixture, megasportsarena.com reports.
Awaziem disclosed that he was happy to play all 90 minutes of his side’s last match, which they won 3-2 against Celta de Vigo, a result that was good enough to take them off bottom spot in La Liga, and he believes defeating their fellow-relegation battlers at Estadio Municipal de Butarque gives Leganes cause to be confident heading into the next game.
Speaking against the backdrop of their first win of the season on Sunday evening, Awaziem said they just have to keep their spirits going high and the lad on loan from FC Porto of Portugal, who almost got his first La Liga goal in the 11th minute, as his header hit the bar, is asking for favour in their upcoming game.
That would be mostly due to the scary memory he still harbours from Sunday’s match, in which Video Assistant Referee (VAR) rescued him from what could have been a gifted penalty to Celta Vigo, after the ball marginally hit his hand deep into injury time.
While admitting his relief that his side escaped the setback and went on get maximum points, Awaziem has now enthused that they will continue the surge on Friday, ahead of which he pointed out that all his colleagues are confident that they can also get the better of Alavés.
”I feel so happy. The team deserved the three points because we needed them and we came all out to win the game. I think we had late pressure, but we defended very well till the last minute. When you start to win games, you begin to get confident and you begin to develop the habit of winning and this is a good step to get out of relegation zone,” Awaziem told La Liga TV.
