Arsenal of England youth team player, Malcolm Ebiowei has received an official invitation to the Nigerian cadet national team, Golden Eaglets, with a view to seeing him don the green-and-white jersey at this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil, megasportsarena.com gathered.
The formal call-up to Coach Manu Garba’s side comes after Ebiowei gave his word to honour Nigeria’s invitation to the Eaglets’ camp in Abuja, where he will now commence training with the squad in their ongoing preparations towards Brazil 2019.
This development means the 15-year-old talent has decided to dump England and Holland in preference for Nigeria, as he also has English and Dutch citizenship, with international appearances for youth teams of both countries, but he is now heading for a switch in allegiance.
Manu would, therefore, most likely have the service of the youngster, who has been described as ‘one of the most talented players at Arsenal Academy,’ as a detailed report indicates that Ebiowei has a lot of quality and technique he is bound to bring to bear on the Nigerian cadet squad.
The report by allnigeriasoccer.com reads in part: “The Nigeria Football Federation have leapfrogged the English Football Association and Royal Dutch Football Association in the race for the services of promising Arsenal youngster Malcolm Ebiowei.
“The invitation letter with reference number NFF/GEN/TECH/203 VOL.VI/6 was sent to Arsenal Football Club on August 5, 2019.
“The Nigerian Federation requested that Arsenal should release Ebiowei as he has been selected to join the rest of the Nigeria National U17 team for trials, which shall take place in Abuja on the 13th of August, 2019.
“Ebiowei has been described as a free-kick specialist and is a midfielder who is capable of playing on the wing, which he showed for the Dutch U15 side.
“One of the most talented players at Arsenal Academy, he made the bench when the young Gunners faced Chelsea in the U18 Premier League back in the 2017-18 season at the age of fourteen.”
