Chelsea of England youth tea player, Faustino ‘Tino’ Anjorin made the trip out of London with The Blues to Portugal, where they are billed to tango fellow-English Premier League side, Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League final.
Anjorin participated in Chelsea’s final training session at Cobham before the squad traveled to Portugal and he will hope to follow the example of former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, who was a key member of the Chelsea squad that won the Champions League in 2012.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, heading into the ultimate clash against the EPL champions this Saturday at Stadio Edrago in Oporto, Chelsea’s coach, Thomas Tuchel has selected the 19-year-old Nigerian-born England youth international in his squad.
Anjorin has been training with the first team since Monday and the German tactician has now named him among 25 players for the trip to Portugal, but the gaffer will still have to drop at least two from his match day list before kick-off.
Anjorin, who is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, attacker or winger, will battle Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz for one of the spots in the final list of 23.
While another Nigerian-born England youth international, Felix Nmecha could not make Man City’s 24-payer squad that traveled to Portugal on Thursday afternoon, another opening has come for Anjorin, who first got a dose of European club football under Chelsea’s former coach, Frank Lampard.
Back then, Anjorin was promoted into his first team set-up after injuries to Hudson-Odoi and Ziyech, following which the teenager made his full debut for The Blues in a 1-1 draw with Krasnodar of Russia.
Before then, Anjorin, who joined Chelsea at the age of six, had only made two substitute appearances for the club before taking on the Russian visitors, and it came with The Blues already through to the last-16.
