Everton of England playmaker, Alex Iwobi has hinted that he took special delight in being part of The Toffees’ squad that dented the pride of his former club, Arsenal on Saturday, as he got an assist in the home team’s 2-1 win at Goodison Park, megasportsarena.com reports.
Retaining his place in the starting line-up with his new role as right-wing-back, Iwobi was a thorn in the flesh for The Gunners and, though he revealed afterwards that he felt greet meeting some of his former teammates, the Super Eagles’ star was equally happy to be on the winning side.
It was smooth sailing all the way, as Iwobi grabbed his second consecutive assist in guiding Everton to victory over his former side, as The Gunners failed to halt their dismal form that has pulled them down to 14th in the English Premier League.
As pressure mounts on Arsenal’s coach, Mikel Arteta, The Gunners, whose captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still out with injury, have now gone seven league games without a win after Yerry Mina’s header and Rob Holding’s own goal lifted Everton up to second.
Nicolas Pepe’s penalty had restored parity at Goodison Park, where Arteta spent six-and-a-half seasons as a player, but it was not a platform from which Arsenal could build on, as Iwobi and his pals were back in sublime form and they made the best of playing on their favourite hunting ground on Merseyside.
Though Jordan Pickford’s error led to David Luiz hitting the post, Mina’s 45th-minute header ultimately proved enough for Everton to secure a third straight win from a game which saw just four attempts on target.
Michael Keane was just inches away from breaking the deadlock as Everton started in confident fashion, and an opener came when Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header from Iwobi’s cross diverted in off Holding, and the Nigerian star stated his delight soon after.
Iwobi took to social media to reveal his thoughts over The Toffees’ win and the fact that he ws able to meet some of his former colleagues from Emirates Stadium, as he posted: “Nice To See Old TeamMates Crossed fingers. We Moveee Love-you gestureCandy.”
