A shower of plaudits is still flowing the way of Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi, following his first ever outing as a right-wing-back with The Toffees, megasportsarena.com reports.
Iwobi surprisingly held his own pretty well and played all 90 minutes in the unfamiliar position, as he helped his side eke out a 3-2 away win against Fulham in an English Premier League clash at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Everton’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti opted to line out the attack-minded in a semi-defensive role, but Iwobi proved everyone wrong by putting in what many pundits say was arguably his best performance since joining The Toffees.
He completed six take-ons, more than any other player on the pitch, even as he finished the game with two interceptions, two tackles, two clearances, nine recoveries and 88 percent passing accuracy.
It is the fifth role Iwobi has played since his move from Arsenal to Goodison Park in the summer of 2019 having previously played as a left-winger, right-winger, support striker and attacking midfielder.
Everton and Nigerian fans were impressed by the performance of Iwobi, especially in the first half, and took to Twitter to praise for replicating a semblance of what they saw three seasons ago from former Super Eagles’ winger, Victor Moses excelling in a similar role for Chelsea.
Aside messages from excited fans flooding social media, Iwobi has also gained plaudits from fellow-players, with his former arsenal teammate, Alexandre Lacazette styling him in the ilk of Brazilian iconic right-back, Maicon.
Lacazette posted: “Maicon 🔥,” while Holland-based right-back, Tyronne Ebuehi and Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze also chipped in good words for their compatriot, as they both praised Iwobi for his performance against Fulham. Ebeuhi wrote: “I liked what i saw 👀🏃🏾♂️💨🔥.”
