Bayern Munich of Germany defender, David Olatokunbo Alaba appears heading closer to a deal at Chelsea of England, following a decision by officials at his German Bundesliga club to snub his demand for a new, improved pay package of £280,000 per week, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Alaba already edging closer to the end his current contract and already deemed as a veteran in the twilight of his career, The Bavarians have found it hard to accede to his demands, thereby raising further speculation about his future at Allianz Arena.
The situation has alerted interest from Manchester City and Liverpool of England as well as Real Madrid and Barcelona of Spain, but the last information on offer from Deutschland indicates that Chelsea could win the race for the Nigerian-born Austria international.
This is sequel to reports indicating that Alaba’s agent is set to meet the hierarchy of Chelsea in the coming week, as The Blues aim to firm up their interest in the highly acclaimed Bayern Munich left-back.
Although another report adds that Paris-Saint-Germaine of France have also entered the race to hook Alaba, who has a Nigerian father and mother from Philippines, but Chelsea now appear to be in the front for signing him, as The Blues have formal talks in the pipeline for the star’s deal.
The report by respected German publication, BILD adds: “Alaba’s agent Pini Zahavi plans to start talks with Chelsea in January with the Bayern Munich stalwart looking more and more likely to leave the club in 2021.
“The Austrian, who came through the youth system at Bayern and has made 398 appearances for the club, is yet to agree an extension to his contract at the Allianz Arena which expires next summer.
“With the 28-year-old reportedly wanting £280,000-a-week and Bayern unwilling to meet those demands, Alaba looks set to leave on a free transfer next year and his agent plans to open negotiations with Chelsea.”
