Fulham of England’s Nigerian trio of Ola Aina, Tosin Adarabioyo and Ademola Lookman will enter Wednesday’s English Premier League game versus Tottenham Hotspur with extra zeal for victory, following their goalless draw at home with Southampton on Boxing Day.
Aina, Adarabioyo and Lookman were all upbeat, despite their inability to help The Cottagers snatch victory at Craven Cottage, and they are now eagerly looking forward to a better result that would help them sustain their team’s current unbeaten momentum against Spurs.
Megasportsarena.com reports that this much was revealed in similar reactions from the troika, after their efforts at the weekend, and they all admitted that the attention must quickly shift towards Wednesday’s cracker with Jose Mourinho’s side.
Leading the charge is Aina, , who disclosed that he is enjoying his new role as a central defender for Fulham, having excelled in four of the last five matches of The Cottagers in the EPL, playing on the right-hand side of the back-three, alongside Adarabioyo and Joachim Andersen.
The former England under-19 national team captain, who started out his career as a winger before he was converted to a defender by the Chelsea youth team coaches, went on to declare that he has nothing against playing as a left-back, right-back, wing-back or center back.
Aina’s form has been impressive and he has helped Fulham keep clean sheets in two of their last three games, and he is now hoping to continue his good form against Tottenham on Wednesday, as Scott Parker’s team aim to get out of the relegation zone.
“Normally I would be playing a bit wider, a bit further up the pitch, but I’ve always said that I’ll put a shift in wherever I’m placed. I’m in a back three at the minute and I’m really enjoying it, I feel really comfortable there,” Aina told Fulham’s official website.
In similar vein, Adarabioyo and Lookman added that they were happy to help Fulham extend their unbeaten run to four matches in the EPL, but admitted that wanted a better result than being held to a goalless draw by Southampton at Craven Cottage.
For the 11th consecutive game in the top-flight, Parker named Adarabioyo, Lookman and Aina in his starting lineup, while The Saints had fast-rising Nigerian-born winger, Nathan Tella as a non-playing substitute.
Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ivan Cavaleiro and Lookman fluffed chances to win the game for the hosts, Southampton’s Ward-Prowse hit the woodwork, while Shane Long and Theo Walcott saw their efforts that went into the opposing net chalked off by VAR reviews.
The result, though, saw Fulham rise to 18th in the standings, with 11 points on the log, heading into their London derby against Tottenham, ahead of which Lookman and Adarabioyo took to social to express satisfaction with their contributions that helped Fulham get a point at home.
Adarabioyo posted: “Another point. @FulhamFC 😤;” and Lookman added: “Unfortunate not to get all 3 points today, but the fight goes on!💪🏽 @fulhamfc.”
