Chelsea’s Nigerian-born striker, Tammy Abraham is holding out for an increase in his weekly pay from his current earning of £50,000 but The Bues are not in a hurry to reach an agreement with his agents over the matter, megasportsarena.com reports.
The thorny issue of how much that striker should start earning next year is now dragging on, as officials at Stamford Bridge aim to tie Abraham down, and stop other clubs from luring him away, but the top brass are also hesitating on adding a huge sum to the lad’s fees.
Consequently, Chelsea’s talks with Abraham over a new contract, as well as for Reece James, are dragging, even after The Blues successfully handed new deals to Fikayo Tomori, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Billy Gilmour in recent months.
Attention has now turned to Abraham and James but a report by The Telegraph disclosed that the negotiations are proving to be slower than expected and the pair remain some distance away from signing new contracts, as progress on both players has not been as fast as had been hoped by the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge.
The biggest issue, though, is about how much to top up for Abraham, who signed a contract worth £50,000-a-week in the summer of 2017, but his position as Frank Lampard’s main striker means he has strong bragging power for more money, even as the club wants to tie him down.
