Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi is at the centre of a desperate bid by his club’s English Premier League rivals, Arsenal to lure him away in January, as The Gunners see him as the ideal man to help block their back-four.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, with Arsenal’s defence looking porous and shaky all through the first half of the current season, the word out for their new boss, Mikel Arteta is to get the right man to add depth and steel in roles between the attack and back-four.
Ndidi has been cited as the right man for that job, such that top shots at Emirates Stadium are now ready to give everything they have to get the former Racing Genk of Belgium youngster in the coming month, with a tempting player-plus-cash deal set for the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old Ndidi has been a consistent top performer for The Foxes’ boss, Brendan Rodgers all through the ongoing season, as he steps up his form on a consistent level since his arrival at King Power Stadium from Genk in 2017.
He is currently ranked the best tackler in the English Premier League and has the most marks in terms of ball-winning and recovery this season, which makes him an ideal candidate for the holding midfielder’s role with Arsenal in the second half of the campaign.
A report by Leicestershire Live disclosed that the arrival of Arteta as Arsenal’s latest gaffer means The Gunners will make a strong move for Ndidi in the winter transfer window, as they are ready to offer £40m plus their former captain, Granit Xhaka to lure in the Super Eagles star.
It is bound to be a massive leap in value for Ndidi, who joined The Foxes in a €17.60m deal from Genk in January 2017, after which his individual brilliance has never been in question and has earned him the unofficial title of best back-to-back tackler of the season in the EPL.
He is being touted as the man to help put an end to a porous run that has seen The Gunners let in 27 goals so far, and Arteta knows that Ndidi could help give his back-four useful covering and protection, having done so for a Leicester team which has conceded just 14 goals this season.
Ndidi, who has made 20 appearances in all competitions, from which he has two goals to his name, with his last coming in a 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle United in September, has also been cited as one of the major reasons why Leicester currently sit second on the EPL table.
