Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi has received support from former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand for a contract at The Red Devils, where the Super Eagles’ star could go on to join fellow-Nigerian ace, Odion Jude Ighalo next season, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Ndidi has not stated any ambition to move and Leicester have declared that they are not ready to sell any of their star players in the summer transfer window, Ferdinand reckons that the former Racing Genk of Belgium defender-turned-holding-midfielder has done enough to prove that he deserves a deal at Old Trafford.
With that in view, Ferdinand, who got a chieftaincy title in Lagos during the tenure of acclaimed Man United fan, Babatunde Raji Fashola as governor, has urged The Red Devils to make a move for Ndidi in the summer transfer market.
Incidentally, current Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Jose Mourinho attempted to sign Ndidi from Genk during his days with United, but Leicester eventually won the race for the former defender, who has repeatedly declared that he is not thinking of leaving King Power Stadium, despite reported interest from Arsenal and Barcelona of Spain.
Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Leicester’s James Maddison are the top two names being bandied about as potential reinforcements by United’s boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but Ferdinand is of a strong view that Ndidi deserves a look in as well, considering that he rates the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medalist on the same scale with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Saul Nunez.
Ferdinand, who has recently become a regular feature in visits to Nigeria for several corporate promotional and community support events, said on The Beautiful Game podcast: “I’d maybe go get Partey from Atletico Madrid or Ndidi from Leicester. I like Saul Niguez. He’s a very, very good player in midfield.”
