Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi is bound to face a different kind of competition for shorts in the club next season, as reports out of Queensland indicate that The Foxes are in the hunt for the signing of Real Betis of Spain midfielder, William Carvalho, megasportsarena.com gathered.
Though Ndidi has been an almost ever-present in the former English Premier League champions, and keeps picking remarkable statistics week in-week out, his absence was direly felt during a handful of matches when he was out injured before the coronavirus induced break, such that the King Power Stadium outfit are now thinking of adding another midfielder to their roster.
It also means Ndidi may no longer have a stroll into the starting line-up, as has been the case for him over the past two seasons and the lad who arrived from Racing Genk of Belgium in 2017, as Leicester have reportedly agreed personal terms with Carvalho ahead of a proposed £14m deal in the summer transfer window.
Although the Portuguese midfielder is also said to be under the radar at Inter Milan of Italy and AS Monaco of France, Radio Marca reported that Leicester lead the way in the unfolding race for his signature, after agreeing terms with the player, whose arrival in The Foxes’ squad will surely be a wake-up call for Ndidi.
The exposé by Radio Marca adds: “No agreement has yet been made between the two clubs, but it is believed that the move is likely to go through, and for a cut-price fee too. Carvalho was valued at around £18m before the coronavirus pandemic, but it has been reported by O Jogo that Betis are likely to accept a fee around the region of £14m given the current circumstances.
“The midfielder is yet to return to the pitch since LaLiga’s restart earlier this month, and has twice been an unused substitute for struggling Betis. Rubi was sacked last week with the team languishing in the bottom half of the table, meaning a lack of European football next season is likely to force player sales in the summer.
“The Foxes are set for a Champions League spot at the top of the Premier League, giving them a significant budget for summer business in the transfer window. Although Carvalho is one of Betis’ best players, his game-time has been severely limited this season through injury as he suffered a spinal disc herniation, ruling him out for four months.”
