SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen has been described a ‘very good buy’ for the Naples-based side and the Italian Serie A as a whole, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is the verdict of Udinese’s coach, Luca Gotti, who admitted he is in awe of Osimhen ahead of his side’s clash with Napoli on Monday.
Goti has the pleasure of another Nigerian hitman, Arnaut Danjuma, in his squad, but he chose to downplay the impact of the lad and celebrate Osimhen instead.
Incidentally, Osimhen enters Monday’s game on the back of his brace of goals that helped Napoli get a 2-2 draw away to Leicester City of England in the UEFA Europa League, and Gotti is squared on what the Super Eagles’ lad can unleash against his side.
The Udine-based team’s coach went on to reveal that he taken notice of Osimhen since the lad exploded into goals scoring limelight at Lille, and confessed that the product of Ultimate Strikers Football Academy of Ojota, Lagos will be a handful for his side in Monday’s tie at Dacia Arena.
Osimhen has been the talk of the town since grabbing a second half brace in Napoli’s Europa League opener against Leicester City last Thursday and will be targeting his first goal against domestic opposition this evening.
With that game in perspective, Gotti did not hide his admiration for the former VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille Metropole of France hitman, who the coach said is beginning to show his potential after a difficult start to life at Napoli.
Signed for a club record fee of 70 million euros, the former Lille star missed several games in the first half of last season after picking up a shoulder injury while on international duty with Nigeria, before testing positive for coronavirus.
The Udinese gaffer went on to compare Osimhen with back-to-form Nigerian-born England international, Tammy Abraham, who switched to AS Roma of Italy from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Gotti submitted: “I am feeling the same sensation for him for Abraham of Roma; they are both very strong ones who must not be given space, even if they have the ability to take it by force.
“I followed him before Napoli bought him, at Lille and with Nigeria. I thought right away that it was a good buy for the Serie A.
“Last year he had an injury that limited him and kept him out for a long time, now he is showing all his qualities.”
