SSC Napoli of Italy summer signing, Victor Osimhen has gained another shower of praise for the efforts and impact he has put into the team within the short time arrival from Lille Metropole of France; but one of his new teammates, Matteo Politano has charged everyone at the club to be patient with the youngster.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Politano’s words served as further confirmation of the deep level of love radiating through the team for Osimhen, who on Friday continued his majestic start to life with the Italian Serie A club by slamming home another treble of goals in their latest pre-season game.
The Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and highest goals scorer, who fired home his first hat-trick in Italy against fourth-tier side, L’Aquila in his debut for Diego Maradona’s former club, hit target in the fourth, 61st and 65th minutes before he was replaced after 75 minutes of action.
Having now enacted six goals and two assists in just two matches with Napoli, Osimhen will be expected to continue his surge under completive settings when Gennaro Gattuso’s side go out for their first game of the new Serie A season away to AC Parma at Stadio Ennio Tardini on September 20th.
However, while Osimhen gained more words of support from his teammates, Politano has urged his colleagues and their fans to give the new arrival more time to settle down with the team; as he stressed that the youngster needs time to settle into the team and adjust to their playing patterns.
The 27-year-old winger went on to appeal to all fans of La Parthenopeans not to put pressure on Osimhen, as he holds a strong belief that the former VfL Wolfsburg of Germany and Sporting Charleroi of Belgium hitman, who moved to Naples from Lille Metropole of France last month, will do a lot better once he settles fully into the style of football in the Italian Serie A.
Osimhen wowed Napoli fans with his well-executed treble in his first pre-season game against L’Aquila and in the next on Friday, thereby increasing great expectations that are already on the lad who the Naples-based side paid a club-record fee of €70m plus adds-on to price away from Lille in July.
While admitting he was equally impressed seeing Osimhen explode from the stakes in stunning fashion, Politano stressed that it would wrong for anyone to think it would be smooth sailing all the way for the new arrival at Stadio San Paolo; despite his outstanding performances for Lille, where he scored 18 goals and provided six assists in one season with The Great Danes.
The onus is now on the product of Lagos-based Ultimate Strikers Academy, who only featured in 12 games for Wolfsburg before moving to Charleroi in 2019, to justify the trust reposed in him by Politano, who stated categorically that his new pal needs enough time to settle down in Italy.
Politano told Sky Sport Italia: “Osimhen has great prospects; he’s a good guy and has to work calmly. He has potential; it’s up to him to put it into action. We are happy to have him on the team and we will give him a hand. You shouldn’t expect everything immediately; he comes from a championship that is different from the Italian one. He has great ability. We should put him at ease.”
