Fernebeahce of Turkey winger, Victor Moses is bound to gain another leverage in his cordial relationship with Italian soccer tactician, Antonio Conte, as the gaffer could replicate the affection he had for the player in time past, by having the former Super Eagles star at his next club.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the next club for Conte is very likely to be Inter Milan of Italy, back in his home land, and the first player he reportedly has on his mind is Moses.
That has opened talk of a plausible reunion between player and gaffer, who first hit off a smooth technical understanding when Conte was the manager at Chelsea, and gave Moses a revival of fortunes with regular playing time in the starting 11.
Before Conte’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, Moses had been loaned out thrice in quick succession, to Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham United, but the Italian gave the Nigerian a broad lease of life by lining him out as a right-wing-back.
It was the first time Moses would play that role in any team, but he fell into the duty seamlessly and wowed everyone with his captivating abilities, which translated into an English Premier League title for The Blues and regular playing time for the once forgotten winger.
That fairy-tale story could not enter part two this summer, as Conte has reportedly targeted a deal for Moses, in his first priority as Inter boss, as the Italian coach is on the brink of signing a three-year deal and end his year-long sabbatical from the round leather game.
With Inter well placed to play in the UEFA Champions League again next season, Conte is likely to be armed with a transfer war chest to help The Nerazzurri progress beyond the group stage this time around, and part of his armoury for that expedition could jolly well by ‘Vic-Mo.’
Sky Sports claims Conte wants to make Moses his first capture at the San Siro, as the coach looks to mold a side capable of not just challenging in Europe, but to close the gap on eight-time Serie A champions, Juventus.
Moses was converted to a wing-back with great success during Conte’s two-year stint at Stamford Bridge, and got 34 appearances as The Blues won the Premier League title during his first year in charge.
However, Conte’s exit led to a change in fortunes for Moses at Stamford Bridge, and the winger was loaned to Fenerbahce during the second half of the season, having failed to make same impression on Maurizio Sarri.
That situation could change in the summer, with Moses’ career about to take another positive turn, should Conte succeed in taking him to Italy.
The only obstacle, though, is that Inter will have to negotiate both with Chelsea and Fenerbahce, given that the 28-year ace still has 12 months remaining on his loan deal, but a package can be put together for him.
Moses admits he suffered after Conte’s exit at Stamford Bridge, and says he left Chelsea in January because he saw handwriting on the wall that he was surplus to requirements.
Sarri, who became Chelsea boss at the start of the 2018-2019 season, sets up his team in a 4-3-3 formation, with two central defenders, a right back and left back, which saw Moses revert to his position as a winger.
Sadly, he found playing opportunities limited at Stamford Bridge as he was behind Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian in the pecking order of wingers; unlike when he was the undisputed first choice right wing-back during the two years Conte was in charge.
On the other hand, since his loan move to Fenerbahce, Moses has played 13 games in the Turkish Super Lig, scoring three goals, including the gilt-edged winner against BB Erzurumspor this past Monday.
It is now left to be seen if he would willingly follow Conte’s brain again, meaning he would have to leave the seeming certainty and comfort he has at Ferne, for a trial of affection again under the Italian at Inter.
Moses said via The Guardian UK: ”It’s tough, as Chelsea’s a very special place for me and I’ve always had a great relationship with the fans but it became very obvious that I was not in the manager’s plans.
”I have achieved great things there but I just needed to play football and that’s why I got the move to Fenerbahce.”
