Watford of England midfielder, Tom Dele-Bashiru could be heading for the exit door at Vicarage Road this summer, following the English Premier League club’s decision to sign Senegal-born French youth international, Pape Gueye on a five-year deal from French Ligue 2 side, Le Havre, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although the 21-year-old midfielder, who made 25 appearances and recorded two assists in the cancelled lower division league this season had also been on the radar of Arsenal of England, Sevilla of Spain and AC Milan of Italy, Watford have managed to snatch the youngster, whose contract is set to run out in the summer, thereby putting a question on Dele-Bashiru’s spot in the team.
It means the future of Dele-Bashiru is threatened at Watford, who currently sit 17th in the EPL, only on goal difference ahead of Bournemouth, which is just outside the relegation zone, as they are just two points ahead of 19th-placed Aston Villa, but Dean Smith’s side have a game in hand.
Unlike Dele-Bashiru, who is yet to stamp his authority at Vicarage Road and is yet to get an invitation to Nigeria’s senior national team, Gueye has been compared to N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, with current ratings citing him as a young player that is expected to hit top marks soon.
All odds are now staked against Dele-Bashiru, who joined Watford from Manchester City few months after starring for Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland, but he has not be able to step up into the big time and could jolly well give way to Gueye, who has also been linked with Valencia of Spain, Udinese and Fiorentina of Italy as well as Olympique Marseille of France.
With his current contract at the French outfit billed to expire this summer, Gueye is billed to join The Hornets on July 1, ahead of which tongues are already wagging in excitement to herald the fast-rising lad, who is still eligible to play for Senegal and France at full international level.
