Chelsea of England striker, Tammy Abraham is at the centre of conflicting reports about a recent link with Arsenal that is coming his way, with one suggesting he is on the way to Emirates Stadium but another stating otherwise.
Abraham has been in the spotlight about a possible departure from Stamford Bridge this summer, following his inability to settle into The Blues’ main frame, but uncertainty now surrounds his chances of joining Arsenal.
Megaspotsarena.com reports that this comes after Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has rejected suggestions that Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Abraham, who failed to make England’s squad to the recent European Championship.
The 23-year-old is tipped to leave Chelsea during this summer’s transfer window, and he has been linked with a number of clubs, including West Ham United and Aston Villa, where he spent time on loan two seasons ago and helped gain promotion to the English Premier League.
A recent report claimed that Arsenal were on the verge of winning the race for Abraham in a loan deal that would include an obligation to buy, but Romano stressed that the London club are not in advanced talks for the centre-forward.
Abraham has scored 30 times and registered 12 assists in 82 appearances for Chelsea, including 12 goals and six assists in 32 outings in all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign and, with his current deal due to expire in June 2023, The Blues still value him in the region of £40m.
However, Romano’s verdict is in contrast with a simultaneous report, which suggested that The Gunners are set to win the race to sign Abraham on loan from their fellow-London-based rivals, where the 23-year-old hitman has fallen down the pecking order.
His implosion was ignited with the arrival of Thomas Tuchel in January, thereby igniting reports that The Blues are prepared to let him leave this summer, as they attempt to lure their primary target, Erling Braut Haaland from Borussia Dortmund of Germany over to Stamford Bridge.
British tabloid, The Sun added in another report: “The Blues value Abraham at £40m, though Arsenal and other potential suitors are not prepared to match this figure.
“However, a possible loan deal with an obligation to buy is to be discussed with the Gunners, who have moved ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United for the England international.
“Abraham, who has two years remaining on his £80,000-a-week contract, scored 12 goals and provided six assists for Chelsea in 32 appearances last season. “
