Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons have been hit with a slight setback in their build-up programme to this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, as their expected international friendly against Slovakia has been called off, and they will not face a club in the same country instead.
The Falcons were initially scheduled for a rematch on Sunday with the team that gave them a huge scare during a recent invitational competition, in which the Nigerians had to romp from behind to brilliantly edge a seven goal thriller 4-3.
However, instead of the much-anticipated high-profile friendly with Slovakia’s women national team on Sunday, thenff.com disclosed that the nine-time African champions will now play a top division club.
Team administrator, Mary Oboduku disclosed that the Falcons will now be up against ZNK Pomurje Beltinci, a top Slovakian women’s club that has eight players in the East European country’s national squad.
Ahead of the game, the Falcons will depart their pre-championship camp at Avita Resort in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, Austria immediately after lunch on Sunday, and they are scheduled to arrive in Beltinci by 2.30pm, for the game starting at 4pm Slovakia time.
Sunday’s encounter is the last friendly game for the nine –time African champions before they head off to France on Tuesday, where they will participate at France 2019, which starts on Friday next week.
This past Tuesday, the Falcons traveled to Hungary, where they defeated a top division club, Halandas Viktoria 5-1 at Kiraly Sports Centre in Szombathely, with goals from Asisat Oshoala (brace), Chinwendu Ihezuo, Francisca Ordega and Ogonna Chukwudi.
