South African hip-hop rapper, AKA has expressed dismay over the Super Eagles’ 2-1 victory against his country in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, and wonders why Nigeria continues to have an upper hand over his country on the soccer pitch, megasportsarena.com reports.
However, the rap star, whose full name is Kiernan Jarryd Forbes and is also known as Supa Mega, went on to admit that matches between Nigeria and South Africa go beyond just football, with several political and social dimensions added to it, hence the pain he felt over his team’s latest lose to the Eagles.
AKA, whose songs often connote his love for soccer, noted that Nigeria also beats South Africa in other issues beyond football, and reasoned that Bafana Bafana should have just lost to AFCON 2019 hosts, Egypt, in the round of 16 than suffer the ignominy of falling to ‘Naija’ again.
Born and raised in Cape Town, Western Cape, AKA gained significance after releasing his single “Victory Lap” which was released for his debut album, Alter Ego in 2011.
Forbes continued his success by releasing studio albums which include Levels (2015), Touch My Blood (2018), and the collaborative album, Be Careful What You Wish For alongside Anatii (2017).
He made his pain known in several posts on social media, with piercing words and some expletives in his message from Sandton, South Africa.
Aka stated: “I’m hurt man. This match was bigger than football. The biggest rivalry on the continent. Why do we always have to lose against Naija at EVERYTHING.
“It’s a hard pill to swallow man. We keep on losing to Nigeria in every way. We should have just lost to Egypt … rather than Nigeria.”
