Steven Gerrard Clears The Air On Carney Chukwuemeka’s Situation

Steven Gerrard has made another clear Carney Chukwuemeka admission as Aston Villa pursue permanent transfer of the player, Megasportsarena.com reports.

Carney Chukwuemeka has long been considered by Aston Villa as one of the most exciting young talents anywhere in the country.

From being named ‘the best 16-year-old in England’ to becoming the third youngest Villa debutant in the Premier League era, sadly, Chukwuemeka’s future at the club is now in serious doubt. And the situation is more complex than what it might seem from the outside.

Staying with top talents and, for the second match running, Chukwuemeka was Gerrard’s first pick from off the bench.

The 18-year-old is no closer to signing new terms but, again, Gerrard entrusted the England under-19 star to come on ahead of those with Champions League and international experience.

When asked about the player’s capabilities, the head coach spoke well of the FA Youth Cup winner once again: “He’s hopefully going to be a big player for Aston Villa. We want him to stay here long-term. We believe it’s the right place for Carney and, again, myself and the staff have shown huge trust putting an 18-year-old in but we wouldn’t do it if we didn’t think he was ready, or have the ability not to cope.

Carney, who is eligible to play for Nigeria and England, came on as a substitute in Villa’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool last night and his contribution didn’t go unnoticed by the gaffer.

“It was a good experience (vs Liverpool) and a learning one for him, being on the pitch around so much quality. So, yeah, I hope that situation progresses in a positive way. In training he’s been fantastic and I’ve said many times, if these young kids outtrain and deserve to go onto the pitch before people who are older, I’ll put them on!”

Chukwuemeka, who showed promise against the Reds, went close to prodding home Ings’ rebound but Alisson’s save just evaded him as Villa chased for an equaliser.
