Crotone of Italy striker, Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) has become the second African, behind Arsenal of England’s captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with a goals scoring streak in consecutive matches across Europe, after netting his 16th of the season on Saturday.
Megasportsarena.com reports that ‘Simy’ netted for the seventh consecutive game as Crotone were beaten 2-1 by Udinese in an Italian Serie A match staged at Stadio Ezio Scida, where he first equalised from the spot after De Paul had given the visitors the lead.
However, despite enacting yet another remarkable feat, Crotone came away empty handed as De Paul, again, scored the winning goal with sixteen minutes left, following which statistics provided by OPTA showed that Simy follows Aubameyang as the next African player to score in more consecutive appearances in the top-five European Leagues.
The Gabon international performed his feat with 10 games for with Borussia Dortmund of Germany, while Simy has now scored 10 goals in seven matches, with braces against Torino, Lazio and Napoli, while his other strikes came against Atalanta, Bologna, Spezia and Udinese.
Simy is the top scoring player in the big five European Leagues since the beginning of March, ahead of Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) and Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City) who have seven goals each.
Sadly, despite Simy’s remarkable form, Crotone need a miracle to avoid relegation as they are currently bottom of the Serie A seven matches to the end of the season and a quick return to the Italian lower league looks quite likely for them after another round of matches.
On a personal note, though, interest from Genoa and Atalanta is bound to increase for Simy, after he netted his 16th goal of the campaign with a penalty in the 68th minute for Crotone to initially draw level with visiting Udinese.
It was his seventh penalty goal of the season, but Crotone again lost, as they fell 2-1 this time and remain rooted to the basement of the Italian top flight league with a mere 15 points from 31 matches.
