Crotone of Italy striker, Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) has received a strong summer transfer link with modest club, SC Monza, who want to cash in on the recent relegation of the tall attacker’s club from the Italian Serie A.
With ‘Simy’ having hit his best goals scoring form since turning professional, expectations are rife that he will not follow Crotone back down to the Italian Serie B, but Monza want to try sentiments to the fullest, as they are also in Italy’s second-tier division.
Monza are reportedly banking on their strong tradition of Nigerian players that have played for them in the past, as their modest history includes stints for Mohammed Aliyu Datti, Harmony Ikande and Emeka Jude Ugali.
Consequently, megasportsarena.com gathered further, the club owned by former AC Milan of Italy president, Silvio Berlusconi has lined up a swift move to see ‘Simy’ sign the dotted lines his summer and help them strengthen their attack next season.
Tuttomercatoweb reported further that there is a possibility of Monza hooking Simy through the aid of their incoming gaffer and former Crotone coach, Giovanni Stroppa, who handled the lanky star for two and a half years.
With Stroppa being linked with the managerial job at Monza, the chances of Simy also joining The Biancorossi could jolly well materialize, but the snag is that they are also a second-tier side and already face competition from Genoa, SS Lazio, Salernitana and Sampdoria.
This offers another career opening for the 29-year-old Simy, who has mustered 66 goals in 159 appearances for Crotone since joining them in 2016, but they are now willing to sell him to the highest bidder following their relegation from the Serie A.
The tall lad, who played in Portugal before moving to Italy, has earned a recall to Nigeria’s national team for their friendly against Cameroon next Friday, after close to three years out of the Super Eagles’ squad, such that dropping to the Serie B appears unlikely for him this summer.
