Manchester United of England’s Nigerian-born whiz-kid, Shola Shoretire has received startling assurances of a long-term tenure with The Red Devils, megasportsarena.com reports.
So soon after reports emerged that Shoretire had already agreed to a scholarship contract at Old Trafford, the youngster has now been set on the right path towards a professional deal with the team, with further hints about getting opportunities to stay put for a long time to come.
This much is gained from a report by Manchester Evening News, which confirmed that United have agreed terms with Shoretire, despite the fact that he only turned 16 last month and is still a scholar, but he has accepted terms of a pre-contract to turn professional from July 1.
An additional report by tribalfootball stated further: “United sources say the fair-skinned lad will be on a ‘long-term’ deal to continue his development at the club. United have fought off competition from overseas clubs to retain Shoretire, who joined the club at the age of 10 in 2014 from his native Newcastle.
“Head of first-team development Nicky Butt included Shoretire in the academy’s pre-season tour squad that travelled to Austria in 2018 when he was only 14. The squad was mainly made up of U18 and U23 players, including James Wilson and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, but United decided to fast-track the prodigious Shoretire’s development in Obertraun.”
A report by allnigeriasoccer.com added: “Blessed with a a repertoire of skills, Shoretire has been compared to former Super Eagles captain Austin Okocha by The Sun.
“Regarded then as one of the best dribblers in the world, Okocha lit up the English Premier League with his breathtaking skills and Shoretire is being tipped to follow in the footsteps of the former Bolton Wanderers playmaker.
“Manchester United have been wise to offer him a scholarship and professional contract ahead of the 2020-2021 season, with several European clubs preparing to swoop for him in the summer transfer window.
“The 16-year-old caught the attention of the global media in December 2018 after becoming the youngest player in history to represent Manchester United in the UEFA Youth League. The two-footed teenager is comfortable playing as a winger, attacking midfielder and striker.”
