Bursaspor of Turkey defender, Shehu Abdullahi has disclosed that he decided to open a football academy in Sokoto because he wants to fully contribute in producing the next Super Eagles star from the community in which he grew up, megasportsarena.com reports.
The fair-skinned right-back, who started out with Sokoto United before moving to Kano Pillars, where he got his breakthrough in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), said he wants to play a key role in spotting hidden talents and help them achieve their football dreams.
The 26-year-old defender, who had a two-week summer holiday back at his roots, after winning bronze with the Eagles at Egypt 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, added that the Academy helps him show appreciation to his fans, give back to the society and encourage young players in his state.
Abdullahi, who also played for Plateau United of Jos, Qadsia of Kuwait, União da Madeira of Portugal and Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus, took to his Twitter handle to announce the formal take-off for his new football academy in Sokoto State.
The statement read: “To compliment the Shehu Foundation programs, we have set up the Football Academy in Sokoto State.
“The target is to discover the talents, nurture them & give them the platform to excel. Sokoto State must produce the next Super Eagles stars.”
