Manchester City of England youth team player, Samuel Edozie was on song for the club in the English Premier League 2, and helped his side keep a stronghold on top spot, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Edozie firing on all cylinders, The Citizens romped to another victory and edged closer to the EPL2 title after spanking their local rivals, Manchester United 3-0 at Academy Stadium.
Edozie’s time to shine was boosted by the nod he got from the team’s coach, Enzo Maresca, who kept faith with the lad in the starting lineup, while fellow-Nigerian-born youngster, Shola Shoretire started for Manchester United.
The game came a day after Shoretire was an unused substitute against Granada of Spain in the UEFA Europa League, but the spotlight was for Edozie, who broke the deadlock when he tapped into an empty net from close range in the 14th minute.
Two second half goals from Cole Palmer then gave City a comprehensive win over The Red Devils, though the winning team’s first change of the evening saw Edozie make way for another Nigerian-born player, Felix Nmecha after an hour.
While Edozie has scored five goals in all competitions for City’s youth teams this season in spite of playing mostly as a winger, attacking midfielder Nmecha, who is closer to the first-team at Etihad Stadium, has eight goals in 19 appearances.
Nmecha and Edozie would, however, both enjoy the spoils should Man City be crowned Premier League 2 champions if Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur fail to win their next games.
