Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has sensationally disclosed that one of the factors he is banking on for victory against Liberia this Friday is the fact that his players are training with new footballs provided by world soccer governing body, FIFA,megasportsarena.com reports.
While also expressing enthusiasm that the spirit seen among the players at their abode in Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos is also evocative of victory signs, the Franco-German tactician added that they are primed to kick-start the campaign to Qatar 2022 World Cup with victory.
He went on to express confidence in the ability of his lads to tear The Lone Star apart when they tango at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, where he believes they will make the best use of playing at home to open the race to Qatar in style.
The three-time African champions will four days later play away to Cape Verde in the second game of the qualifiers, before taking on Central Africa Republic later on the Group C tussle, from which a single ticket is available for the play-off stage.
While acknowledging that his team must not take any of their group opponents for granted, Rohr went on to express optimism that his players will come out of Friday’s game with victory in the kitty, which would then put them in good stead to achieve maximum points at home.
The former coach of Girondins-Bordeaux of France as well as the national teams of Gabon, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso added that he was impressed with the reactions shown by his players during their first session, which held in the hotel’s gym.
Rohr concluded: “The light workout was okay. We had players who travelled, played games and are a bit tired so we wanted to do something fun with good football technique so we have the new balls from FIFA which is a little bit different since had to feel the balls.
“Concerning the shape of the players, we judge based on the games at their clubs. We monitored some of them this weekend and most of them did well in their clubs, some could not play so much.
“There was red card for Osimhen and we have small injuries but not serious. So, the group we have will be able to do a good work and be ready for this very important match of this World Cup qualifiers on Friday.”
