First vice-president, of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi has declared that Super Eagles’ head coach, Gernot Rohr deserves the two-year contract he reportedly put to paper to on Wednesday, as the top shot believes the Franco-German tactician has been quite successful with the national team.
Megasportsaerena.com reports that, while citing his qualification for both the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with a match to spare, then went on to win bronze for the country at Egypt 2019, Akinwumi posited that Rohr’s contract extension is very much in order.
He added that everyone at The Glasshouse is happy to continued their relationship with Rohr, who played as a defender former Bayern Munich of Germany and Girondins-Bordeaux of France, after which coached the French Ligue 1 club as well as the national teams of Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and Gabon, before taking over the Eagles saddle in July 2016.
The NFF buff, who is also chairman of Lagos State Football Association, went on to charge all players, assistant coaches and officials in the Eagles to remain level-headed and focused, in order to grow further under Rohr, who got his first contract renewal before the World Cup in Russia; but will now look to qualify for the same competition in 2022 as well as AFCON 2021.
Akinwunmi concluded: “He has done a very good job and when someone does a good job, he gets a reward. We are proud to have taken Mr. Rohr on board and we are delighted to be signing this contract extension with him.”
