Victor Osimhen has made Serie A history for himself, following in the footsteps of George Weah, Samuel Eto’o and Mohamed Salah.
The Nigeria international bagged his second consecutive brace Saturday afternoon, against Udinese after Hellas Verona, taking his total for the campaign to 11 goals.
Megasportsarena.com reports that this makes him the first ever Nigerian player to achieve double figures in two consecutive Serie A seasons for Napoli.
The only Africans to have achieved this feat in the Italian top flight were Weah for Milan, Eto’o at Inter and Mo Salah with Roma.
Osimhen, who is wanted by scores of clubs in the English Premier League, has already done better than his debut Italian season, when he finished with 10 Serie A goals in 24 appearances.
Osimhen has found the net 25 times in 55 appearances for Napoli, along with seven assists, in all competitions.
It is particularly remarkable, considering how many injury problems Osimhen has had during his time in the Napoli jersey.
That includes COVID twice, having a dislocated shoulder, being knocked unconscious when his head hit the turf and suffering multiple facial fractures.
