President Will Host Other Athletes – Dalung

Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung has promised that President Muhammadu Buhari will receive and reward Nigerian athletes in different sports, who have won laurels for the nation.
Dalung disclosed this after President Buhari announced cash gifts of N1m to each player and N500,000 to officials of the women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress.
This came in recognition of their feat in winning this year’s AfroBasket tournament in Mali and qualified for the 2018 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Spain.
He said: “Although, we have athletes who had competed in other sports and won laurels for the country, we felt it was economical to present the basketball team, which was on ground.
“(This is) in view of the fact that if you look at the components of players, they are mixed with domestic players and overseas-based players.
“For those we have not been able to receive, we will still do it at the appropriate time knowing that this government is always committed to receiving and honouring our athletes whenever they make the country proud.”
