Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu could jolly well be on his way to Atletico Madrid of Spain, as reports out of The Land of The Armada indicate that Los Rojiblancos are keen on signing him.
Although details of the development are yet to emerge, it was gathered by megasportsarena.com that interest in Onuachu from the Spanish LaLiga was inspired by his top scoring performances for Genk last season in the Belgian top-flight.
The former Young Stars of Lagos, FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Midtjylland of Denmark star hit home 35 goals in all competitions last season, while this term has already see him with 11 goals from 14 games, thereby justifying all transfer buzz around him.
Similar interest came for Onuachu from the English Premier League duo of West Ham United and Brighton in the summer transfer window but nothing concrete came out of all speculation surrounding his future.
He has, however, put behind him the disappointment of his inability to et a big transfer in January and continues raining goals, which keeps speculation swirling round him, despite recently extending his contract with the 2021 Belgian Cup winners.
Spanish sports daily, Marca has now reported that Atlético are the latest club to be linked with the tall striker and their sporting director, Andrea Berta has made contact with Genk over the likelihood of signing Onuachu in the winter transfer market.
A report by allnigeriasoccer.com added: “The Colchoneros are in the market for a center forward to provide competition for Luis Suárez and have Onuachu on their radar.
“Atlético Madrid have reportedly scouted the Nigerian several times with a view to making a bid for his services.
“If Onuachu is signed, he would not count as a non-European Union player because of the Cotonou Agreement.”
