Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu has disclosed that he is still cherishing his historic milestone with the Belgian Jupiler League side, after he romped home his 50th goal for the side since arriving two years ago from FC Midtjylland of Denmark.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, in enacting his memorable haul of goals for the Belgian Cup holders, Onuachu helped Genk eke out a tight 1-0 win away to Rapid Vienna of Austria in the UEFA Europa League, which was also his 78th match for the club.
The fixture also took Onuachu’s total haul to 129 goals in 274 appearances in Europe, an average of 0.47 goals per game and improved his goals average to 0.64 since he first popped into the spotlight when he hit a stunner home against Manchester United of England.
This comes few hours after the product of Young Stars of Satellite Town, Lagos and FC Ebedie of Shagamu parried reports of regrets on his mind for failing to make a big money transfer in the summer, after emerging top scorer in the league last season with Genk.
Onuachu, who still has three years left on his contract at Genk, scored 35 goals in the past term across all competitions and he was widely expected to cash in on that feat with a huge transfer deal with a top league club.
He was even linked with several clubs in the English Premier League, French Ligue 1 and Italian Serie A, but the much-touted swoop did not happen, leaving many observes to conclude that he was devastated, but Onuachu has now spoken out to douse such suggestions.
Although he admitted he was disappointed not to get a deal, based on his heroics of the past season, the tall Super Eagles’ star insisted he was not unduly worried by the setback, which he has since put behind him and he is now settling down to another brilliant season with Genk.
Onuachu told Het Laatste Nieuws: “I was disappointed that I was not able to make a nice transfer this summer, but I have now closed that chapter. I am focusing on the future with Genk and I am looking forward to it.”
