Two top handball players based in Benin Republic, Rachael Ovetuo and Mercy Audu, who both star for ASPAC in the Francophone West African country, will play key roles in Nigeria’s female national team for the upcoming African championship.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that this is sequel to confirmation from Nieria Handball Federation (NHF) that Ovetuo and Audu will join the array of home-based players in the squad of 16 for the 2021 African Women’s Handball Nations Cup in Cameroon.
A report by aclsports.com disclosed further that the squad, which will be handled by Issy Handball Club of France head coach, Rafiu Salami and Yusuf Abdulkadir from Plateau Peacocks of Jos, will also have 14 home-based players.
The report added: “The 24th edition of the African Women’s Handball Championship will take place from 8th to 18th June, 2021 in Yaoundé, Cameroon
“Safety Babes has four players; Patience Amodu, Chisom Umeh, Ruth Iko and Taiwo Raji while Muhinat Yusuf and Wuraola Nuhu of Adorable Angels of Kwara made the final list.
“The team captain is Dorathy Nyangh while Rafiu Salami of Issy Handball Club, Masculin of France is the head coach. Nigeria is in group B and will face hosts Cameroon, DR Congo and Kenya
