SSC Napoli of Italy new signing, Victor Osimhen has received fresh backing in his aspirations for a successful career at the Italian Serie A club he joined last month, as his brother-in-law, who is also one of his agents, Osita Okolo has predicted that the youngster will perform well with the Naples-based outfit.
Megasportsportsrena.com reports that Okolo is happy to see Osimhen already buzzing with deep-rooted zeal to start starring for Napoli right away, to the extent that the Super Eagles’ rookie wished that he could have lined out for Napoli is Saturday’s UEFA Champions League clash with Barcelona of Spain, which his team lost 3-1 and crashed out of the European elite clubs’ competition.
Osimhen could not be registered for the competition because he was cup-tied, having starred earlier for his former club, Lille Metropole in the group stage; such that he could only watch on agitatedly, as Napoli failed to progress to the quarter-finals, and the 21-year-old hitman will now have to turn his focus on helping them do better in next season’s UEFA Europa League, which they qualified for by virtue of winning this year’s Coppa Italia (i.e. Italian FA Cup).
The product of Ultimate Strikers Football Academy of Ojota in Lagos is, therefore, set to make his debut in the Europa League with Napoli, who have been guaranteed a spot in the group stage of next season’s second-tier continental contest, ahead of which his five-year deal with Napoli will be officially acknowledged by world football governing body, FIFA, when the Italian summer transfer window opens on September 1.
Heading into the upcoming domestic and continental campaigns, Osimhen has already received a favourable forecast from his brother-in-law, who is predicting more thrills from the youngster that started all of Lille’s matches this season in the UCL, except their formality last match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where he was left on the visitors’ bench for all 90 minutes.
Okolo told Radio Kiss Kiss: “Osimhen will have a great impact with Napoli, I am sure. He has a great desire above all to score: he is an excellent finisher and he will come to do what he does best – that is to score. Soon he will join the group to start this new adventure.
“He will be in Castel di Sangro on the dates set by the club for preparation. He saw the match between Barcelona and Napoli; he told me he wanted to play it to help his new teammates. Sorry for the elimination because the team has made itself respected despite facing a strong club like Barcelona.”
