SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen and Leicester city of England attacker, Kelechi ‘Kelz’ Iheanacho are both making a strong case for themselves to start Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Liberia, megasportsaena.com reports.
This is sequel to sterling performances by both forwards during training with the Super Eagles, Osimhen and Iheanacho caught the eye during the team’s first official training at the match venue, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
A total of 24 players took part in the first training session on grass, but the cynosure of all eyes and talk of the arena were Osimhen and Iheanacho, who will now both aim to continue their impressive partnership in leading the Eagles’ attack on Friday.
The number, though, increased to 28 on Wednesday afternoon, with only FC Porto of Portugal let-back, Zaidu Sanusi expected at nightfall, and all the lads looked determined as they stepped up their drills at the arena fondly called ‘TBS,’ where Friday’s match will start at 5pm.
While Osimhen and Iheanacho were outstanding among the forwards, it was a different case for the goalkeepers, as Daniel Akpeyi and Francis Uzoho could not be separated in the rate cards, as their performances were also exceptional during the session.
Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr may now opt to start Akpeyi in Friday’s opening game of the Qatar 2022 qualifiers against Liberia in Lagos, they give a chance to Uzoho for the next match four days later away to The Blue Sharks of Cape Verde on Tuesday.
