AS Monaco of France returnee, Henry Onyekuru is at the centre of heated talks that are currently going on between officials of the French Ligue 1 club and those from the team has last played on loan with, as they try to iron out another transfer fort eh maverick star.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that this comes after Onyekuru failed to hit the glare that had been expected from him on his return to Galatasaray in the second half of the past season, after failing to click on his arrival from the same club in a full transfer to Monaco last summer.
Although initial reports stated that he is now eager to fight for his place at Monaco this season, Turkish sports news publication, Fanatik has reported that Galatasaray and Monaco began talks on Friday to trash out a possible deal for Onyekuru’s immediate future.
This comes against the backdrop of another report in midweek, which added that Onyekuru has survived a massive clear-out by Monaco that could see as many as 10 players leave the French Ligue 1 side before the transfer window shuts by October 5.
Onyekuru was unwanted by Monaco’s former coach Leonardo Jardim, which led to his return to Gala in January, but he appears to be enjoying his time back at Monte Carlo, as he has been fully involved by the new gaffer, Niko Kovac on his return to his parent club last month.
He has continued being involved in full team training sessions, while other players that are not part of Kovac’s plans work apart from the main squad; thereby raising hope for a new lease of life for Onyekuru at Monaco, who bought him from Everton last summer.
The 22-year old former KAS Eupen and RSC Anderlecht of Belgium striker, who scored 14 goals in 31 appearances for Galatasaray on loan from Everton of England and helped the Istanbul-based side win the Turkish Super Lig and double, and he could be on his way back to Turkey again later this month should both clubs reach an agreement in that regard from their ongoing discussions.
The report adds: “Onyekuru transfer has been characterized with countless twists and turns with Monaco not willing to let go the Nigeria when new manager Niko Kovac stated in clear terms that the former Everton striker is not part of his summer plans.
“Onyekuru was also dropped from Monaco pre-season program after Gala insisted on signing the striker on a permanent deal knowing full well that he is not wanted at The Principles. Gala will be hoping to finally melt the ice with Monaco eggheads and sign on Onyekuru who has continued to declare his endless love for the club.”
