Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu has expressed worries over the possibility of fatigue hitting him and his colleagues in Saturday’s reverse fixture against RSC Anderlecht, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking against the backdrop of his side’s come-from-behind 1-1 draw with the same team on Wednesday night, Onuachu acknowledged that it was mostly determination and zeal that helped Genk pull off the draw at home.
The result at Luminus Arena on Wednesday night means Genk dropped points for the first time in the Jupiler Pro League playoff, but Onuachu admitted it was a narrow escape for The Blue-White, who fell behind to El Hadj’s 33rd minute stunner.
However, Onuachu struck midway through the second half to salvage a draw for the hosts, after he met a beautiful pass from Junya Ito and headed into the far corner for the equalizer, thereby taking his tally for the season to 34 goals in all competitions, including 32 in the top-flight league.
OPTA statistics also released that Onuachu is the first player to score 32 goals in a Jupiler Pro League season since Erwin Vandenbergh did so in the 1979/80 season with a record 39 to his name, and it was also the first time the former Young Stars of Lagos, FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Midtjylland giant has managed to score a league goal after four outings against Anderlecht.
Genk remain second with 35 points with three games to go, but they have played a match more than table-topping Club Brugge, who are on 39 points, and Onuachu confessed that he is apprehensive heading into the next game against the same team this weekend.
Onuachu and his teammates face Anderlecht again on Saturday, before matches with Royal Antwerp and Club Brugge, and the Super Eagles’ star is wary of fatigue eventually hitting them in the Belgian First Division A playoff fixtures.
He is happy that the Limburg side managed to salvage a draw, but they cannot afford to drop any further points in their next fixture and, after netting with a header for the seventh time this season, Onuachu admitted he and his colleagues have to work harder in Saturday’s reverse fixture.
Onuachu told Belgian newspaper, Het Laatste Nieuws: “Over time, fatigue will inevitably kick in. We wanted the three points today, but we cannot complain about this draw. 1-1 is better than losing. It was an open game. It was basically attacks over and over again.”
