Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu took his goals count to 29 for the season, just few hours after his club revealed that they want 25m euro from any club that eager to sign him this season, megasportsarena.com reports.
Onuachu’s lethal form in front of opposing nets continued on Saturday, as he struck on the final day of the regular league season and was crowned top scorer in Belgium with 29 goals, after netting twice in a five-goal thriller against his side’s closest rivals, Royal Antwerp.
The 26-year-old Onuachu thus became the third Nigeria star to top the goals chart in Belgium – after Tosin Dosunmu and Joseph Akpala – while also enacting a remarkable improvement from the nine goals he scored last season.
On Saturday, Onuachu opened scoring after just 22 minutes in the shootout between second and third, after which he completed his brace in the 64th minute, when he put away a penalty and, while Genk lost 3-2 at the death, his team remain third on the table with 56 points from 34 matches.
This came few hours after leading Belgian newspaper, Het Laatste Nieuws reported that Genk would be ready to sell Onuachu if they receive a bid in the region of 25m euro, which would make him the most expensive sale by The Limburgers.
Onuachu’s sales figures is expected to surpass he fees Genk received for Sander Berge (€23m), Wilfred Ndidi (€18m), Thibaut Courtois (€8.95m), Christian Benteke (€8.8m) and Kevin De Bruyne (€8m).
“On a personal level, the FC Ebedei product is having his best season as a professional, scoring 29 goals in 34 matches across all competitions for Genk, and he has also impressed for the Super Eagles, netting in back-to-back games for the national team for the first time in his career last month.
“FC Midtjylland chief Claus Steinlein is seemingly aiming to drive up Onuachu’s transfer fee, stating that he expects their former player to be sold for at least €34m, simply because they inserted a sell-on clause into the deal taking the Nigeria international to Genk in August 2019.
“French Ligue 1 club Lyon are rumoured to be one of the clubs interested in signing Onuachu but in truth no concrete bid has been made,” an additional report by allnigeriasoccer.com concluded.
