Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu is attracting transfer interest from Tottenham Hotspur of England, despite his inability to save his side from losing against West Ham United in the UEFA Europa League.
Information about Spurs’ interest in the former Young Stars of Lagos, FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Midtjylland of Denmark giant emerged just few hours after he fired blanks in his side’s 3-0 loss away to Spurs’ fellow-London-based English Premier League rivals, while Ike Ugbo played as a second half substitute.
Onuachu and Ugbo, though, failed to make hay at London Stadium, which was noticeably emptier for the visit of Genk than for their last home European game with Rapid Vienna of Austria, and that apathy from the stands played out on the pitch in a dull opening period.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, although the hosts enjoyed plenty of first-half possession in good areas, they rarely looked likely to test Vandervoordt.
Indeed, the best chance of the half fell to the towering figure of Onuachu, who beat Alphonse Areola to a cross only to head wide beyond an unguarded net.
On the stroke of half-time, David Moyes was forced to rewrite his team talk as Dawson, who had already nodded over from a brilliant Cresswell cross, made amends from a corner to give the hosts the lead.
Genk never looked like recovering from that setback and were three goals behind before the hour mark, as Diop took advantage of some lax marking from another set-piece to power home another Cresswell delivery.
That came before Bowen robbed the lackadaisical Trhostvedt on the flank to put the game beyond doubt barely a minute later.
John van den Brom’s two attacking substitutions finally brought the Genk attack to life but were much too little too late.
The Hammers were lucky that second-half arrivals Mike Tresor and Ugbo both missed presentable opportunities, they were already too far out of sight to be too concerned.
The encounter came few hours after a report by British tabloid, Daily Mail, noted that Onuachu is among the names under consideration by Tottenham’s new coach, Nuno Santos Espirito and the club’s managing director, Fabio Paratici.
The reports adds: “Tottenham will face competition from West Ham for the signature of Genk striker Paul Onuachu.
“Atletico Madrid are also thought to be keeping tabs on the 6ft 7in centre-forward, who is expected to seek pastures new in January or at the end of the season.
“Spurs succeeded in keeping hold of Harry Kane despite strong interest from Manchester City in the summer.
“The north London side hope to retain the England captain beyond this season, with Kane under contract until 2024.
“However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad does not contain a natural back-up to the 28-year-old. That is something the Portuguese wants to address in an upcoming transfer window.
“Spurs are also considering Fiorentina frontman Dusan Vlahovic, but they could be priced out of a move for the Serbia international.”
